Project Details
I'm adding this due to the excellent post-scrape results! There are lots of reasons to remove moss from a roof, the clients reasoning was he was selling the property so was purely for asthetics reasons. So very happy it trurned out the way it did. We applied a Biocide softwash after the clean to kill off any remaining moss and to help prevent regrowth.
What We Did
We gave this terraced house roof a complete transformation with a careful, no-nonsense clean.
Full Roof Moss Removal: We manually and gently cleared a thick, carpet-like layer of moss and algae from every slate.
Gutter & Ridge Tile Care: Cleared all the moss and debris from the gutters, valleys, and ridge tiles to restore proper drainage.
We then soft washed the roof with a special biocide treatment. This gets rid of any tiny bits of moss you can’t see and helps stop it from growing back fast.
Neighbour-Friendly Service: Worked cleanly and efficiently in a tight, terraced space with minimal disruption to the neighbour's.
Challenges We Faced
Working on a terraced roof comes with its own specific set of considerations:
Access & Space: Working on a narrow terrace roof with limited space for equipment and movement required careful planning.
Protecting the Slates: The roof was older, and the slates needed a gentle touch. We had to remove the moss without dislodging or damaging any tiles.
The "Terraced Effect": Moss spreads easily between adjoining houses. We needed to ensure our clean was thorough on the edges to give the best long-term results for the client.
Weather Window: As always in Yorkshire, we had to plan around the weather to ensure the treatment had time to work effectively.
Why This Job Stands Out
This project is a perfect example of how a focused exterior clean can dramatically lift a property's entire appearance and health.
Instant Curb Appeal Boost: The difference was night and day. The clean, dark slate colour returned, making the house look cared-for and well-maintained from the street.
Preventative Care: Removing the moss stopped moisture from being trapped against the roof, which extends the life of the slates and prevents timber rot in the roof structure.
Smart Home Maintenance: For the homeowners, this was a small investment that protected a much larger one—their home.
The Final Result
The homeowners were thrilled with a result that was both obvious and important:
A Dramatically Cleaner Roof: The thick green blanket was gone, revealing the original, handsome slate roof.
Improved Protection: The roof could now properly shed water, keeping the structure underneath dry and sound.
A Proud Homeowner: They gained the pride of a house that looks as good on the outside as it does on the inside, and the peace of mind that comes with proactive maintenance.
Happy Neighbours: A tidy, professional job with no fuss.
